You can take the person from Hawai'i but you can't take Hawai'i from the person.

I spent four months in Texas in 2022. Gas prices were more than a dollar cheaper than Honolulu prices. A gallon of milk was about half the price we normally pay when we're home. Simply put, the cost of living in Texas was much less than Hawai'i.
Many Hawai'i people are reluctantly leaving the islands because they can't afford to live here anymore, which is a sad reality. Hawai'i people can be found all over the globe. During our stay we met lots of local Hawai'i people who have made Texas home.

Though thousands of miles away they stay connected to the islands. How? They have never forgotten their island roots. They continue to practice Hawaiian values such as aloha, laulima, and lokahi. They know how to, as we say, "stay da kine".
“Though thousands of miles away, they stay connected to the islands."
Hawaiian values transcend the overall environment; the food, the entertainment, the people. The feeling of Aloha is alive. It's catching on as well. Have you noticed how popular our shaka is? It seems like everyone throws a shaka when taking a picture.
If you're missing the islands, keep Hawai'i with you. Practice and teach the Hawaiian values you knew when you were in the islands.
